Frequently asked questions

How big is the pack and how much can it hold?

The Teton Scout3400 can hold 55L (liters) or about 14.5 gallons. There is enough room in this generous sized pack for everything you need for a 3-5 day trek in the woods including water reservoir, tent, sleeping bag and pad, food, clothes, stove, pot, and other essentials. The cinching cords and adjustable straps on the outside are perfect for a secrure, safe fit.

How durable is the Teton Scout3400?

It's so durable, it comes with a lifetime warranty. Teton is a US born and bred company that takes great pride in their products and in their customer service. They are great folk over there. We stand behind them 100%.

Is the tent free standing? Is it easy to put up?

Yes, it is free standing though it can be anchored if you expect windy conditions. Yes, it is very easy to put up! One person can easily have it completely set up in inder 5 minutes. We include complete instructions in the Backpack Collection Manual. Videos will ba available soon demonstrating each gear item, how to use it, how to pack it, and how to store it.

What are Trail-Ready exclusive items?

We have a great line of original items included in our packs. The Trail-Ready Rope Anchor keeps the rope from tangling in your pack and is a weight for throwing over branches to hang your "bear bag". What do reviewers say about the Teton Sport Scout3400?

Reviews 4.5/5 ★★★★★ Playing Nice ★★★★★ 5.0 out of 5 stars Scout must for the skinny June 14, 2018 Color: Hunter Green Verified Purchase Hi everyone and thank you for reading my review. I want everyone to know I have a ton of packs in my shed and the only reason I purchased this is because of my skinny son and all of the other reviews from “scout” parents.

First, I didn’t need this. But I did and here’s why.
My son crossed over from cub scouts to Boy Scouts and needed a pack. Not 1 pack fit his waist. At the time, 23”. I preplanned a long time ago and purchased all these super cool ones. Nope: too big. My son is now a 26 1/2 waist (3 months after crossing over) and this pack fit him like butter to include the torso. I believe the website states the waist belt is 26” at the smallest, but I do think it goes as low as 25”. Completely sold on this element alone. For the price point and the size, not having to go woman’s bag or over $200 this is the right bag.

Second, quality. The bag is decent quality. Not top of the line. Factor price point and what this bag has to offer for the average 11 year old learning values in life, this product is of excellent quality. Having said that: parents: upon arrival, pre check every thread, button, snap, drawstring, zipper prior to use. I’m just saying.

Seller: you need to get with BSA and market this exact product for them. I’ve been a leader for 5 years and and a frequent shopper at the scout shops. We need products like this. At least give it a try.

Just a slight FYI: for the boys out there who may have a mild dose of scoliosis or have not hit that 1 critical growth spurt yet-this is it. I’m NOT a doctor, but if you’re going to put a pack on you child-this is the one.

I do see this pack lasting a long time in scouts based on quality and versatility. The straps are in the right places too!!! For a 55L pack, the exterior space is just as valuable. Thank you for such a well thought out product.

Note: I did recieve this product in excellent packaging (excellent) but 1 button was damaged (manufacturing flaw). And I’m not exchanging it. I’m that impressed to still rate it 5 stars. And, you boosted my sons ego with this pack.

Full disclosure: this is a scout mom review!!!! There is plenty of room for EVERYTHING to include the “mom care kit”. Chris ★★★★★ 5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome pack. November 22, 2015 Color: Hunter Green Verified Purchase Plenty of room. Able to fit a three litter hydro pack. It's comfortable easy to put on. 221 people found this helpful Kindle Customer ★★★★★ 5.0 out of 5 stars This Pack is amazing. It's low-priced, high quality and a perfect size. October 29, 2015 Color: Hunter Green Verified Purchase So far, I have taken this thing on a week long trip through India, where it was strapped to the back of a motorcycle as I rode through the himalayas (I'm not kidding here). It held up great and the rainfly was very useful and easy to put over it when it poured on us. The pack endured heavy strain as it was packed to the brim and strapped down hard every day and came out without a scratch (I was surprised about that).

So far I've also used it on multiple hikes and hunting trips through thick brush and between 3 deer I've packed out over 200 lb of venison in the mountains in Utah and Washington. I've thrown it through the washer to clean out all of the blood and it came out like new.

The only wear I've seen on mine is a couple of threads have loose on the bottom where it hides the rain fly, but it doesn't affect anything serious on the pack. It's already well outlived its price and It's got to have at least enough life to redo everything I've already done with it based on its current condition.

Pros:
Extremely durable
great price (gives you more peace of mind when being rough with it)
great size, perfect for carry-on (taken on around 10+ flights, never a problem)
fairly light when empty
Convenient storage on top pouch with an underside zip up pocket for more protected items.
Pretty comfortable, even when filled with 60+ pounds of meat.
Holds Mountain Dew well.

Cons
I wish the waist fabric things were the smaller size, as I don't keep it buckled in very often and they get in the way if I forget to buckle them behind the pack.
Did not come with delicious bacon.
One of the drink holders is slightly smaller than the other, making it more effort to get my large size (in diameter) nalgene bottle in it. It still fits, but it's hard to put in one handed while its still on my back, the other pocket is easier like I said.
The internal frame bars are hard to get back in, I washed it once with them in and took them out for a second wash, I wish I had left them in both times. I had to stick my hand on the inside and guide them past some material that was inside the frame pocket. 306 people found this helpful Mark ★★★★★ 5.0 out of 5 stars A good, solid piece of equipment! July 4, 2016 Color: Mecca Orange Verified Purchase I purchased this backpack for my short section hikes of the Appalachian Trail and it performed very well. The shoulder strap assembly was adjustable to my shorter frame and it was generally very comfortable to carry. It's a smaller, narrower pack, but it held quite a bit of gear (see the picture). The narrow shape made it easier to squeeze through those tight spots on the trail. The sleeping bag compartment could hold either my Teton 20+ degree sleeping bag or my Texsport bivy tent. The compartments on the sides and top gave me easy access to things I needed on the trail (water purification, first aid, emergency supplies, etc.) and there were plenty of places to attach other gear like my sleeping pad. I wasn't super rough with it but it got some heavy use and it held up well. It is a solidly constructed piece of equipment, maybe a little small for a thru-hiker (unless you go light or ultralight) but for a weekend backpacker like me it was perfect. I highly recommend this product. 53 people found this helpful B. Weaver ★★★★★ 5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Pack for a Beginner June 18, 2017 Color: Hunter Green Verified Purchase Although I’m a beginner and I’ve only done 1 overnight trip with it so far, I think I could easily do up to a week with this pack. It comes down to knowing how to pack. If you are just starting out, don’t hesitate to buy this pack.

I bought this for the price, but the amount of good reviews played a part in my choice. Not knowing if backpacking would be a long term thing for me, I didn’t want to spend hundreds on a pack that only got one use. That makes this pack perfect for someone just starting out and buying all (or most of) the gear needed for the first trip.

The pack to me seems to be quality so far and I think it will last me years, if I don’t switch packs to lighten my load before then. Also, this pack will help me learn what I want in a pack, such as zippered pockets and the like.

Pros:
• Seems durable
• Separate sleeping back compartment (I use for my underquilt)
• 2 side pockets
• 2 lid pockets
Cons:
• Heavy
• Water bottle pockets could be angled forward, but they do fit 1 liter smart water bottles perfect
• Mesh pocket on back doesn’t fit much, I’d rather have a zippered pocket or bigger mesh pocket, but that would add weight. 18 people found this helpful Kevin Hagan ★★★★★ 5.0 out of 5 stars It's comfortable, sturdy March 25, 2017 Color: Coyote Tan Verified Purchase This pack has been around a long time. I've hauled mine all over the US on both personal leisure trips as well as guided back country trips with my Scout unit. It's comfortable, sturdy, and light weight. Yes, there are better bags out there, but not for less than $300. I have two Osprey packs that are 22L and 34L, and I love them. But, for the money, you really can't beat this pack. It has a multitude of pockets, including two in the hood, and the rain fly is easily and quickly accessible. I'll be toting this on a section hike on the Appalachian Trail this summer (roughly 60 miles for this leg), and have carried it previously on a 50 mile section. 3 liter hydration capacity. :) 17 people found this helpful Lewis28557 ★★★★ 4.0 out of 5 stars Great Pack for the price November 1, 2018 Color: Coyote Tan Verified Purchase 3 day 4 night backpacking trip in southern Utah. Handled perfectly! I can only carry about 25lbs, and needed a pack bigger than I had.I packed a bulky sleeping pad, ultralight pad, ultralight bag, down blanket, inflatable pillow, propane tank and cook wear, snacks, warm pajamas and a change of clothes for myself and my son, 2 person tent and 2 rain jackets strapped to the outside.I love how adjustable it is! I'm 5'2 130lbs. I had to tighten the hip belt as walked which helped tremendously. The only thing it's missing is pockets on the hip belt for snacks and camera/phone.No complaints, it held up to the first trip very well!I have to add, it was perfect for my "shorter" torso. The straps are very adjustable, prefect custom fit! 2 people found this helpful

What kind of ratings does the Teton Sport Scout3400 get?

What kind of revews does the Hydroblue Versa Flow get?

What do reviewers say about the HydroBlu Versa Flow?

★★★★★ Versatile Posted by Sara R on May 16th 2018 I used this product on my recent camping trip to the desert. I filled up the reservoir with water from a source not known to be potable and used the gravity method to get clean water into our hydroflasks. We cooked and made coffee with the water! When we went out for a day hike we just threw the reservoir into our pack and had plenty of clean water. When my husband goes gold panning, I throw the versa flow in his pack for emergencies. It’s nice that this package allows multiple different methods of filtering since our family is always doing different activities outside. ★★★★★ Great product Posted by oscar_92ff on Apr 24th 2018 It is a great filter, the water flow is pretty good and quality of materials are great, very easy to clean, super lightweight. The 3l water bag is good too, great materials and easy to wash but a little hard to clip in some backpacks, the hole for clip mount is so narrow (even for 3mm+ paracord), and the hose could be a little more flexible but it is fine, about the nozzle... Well it gets dirty very fast (dust, fluff and more) could be great include a cap for keep it clean. Out of that it is a great water bladder. ★★★★ Good Deal Posted by grrlzone on Mar 2nd 2018 Very good water filtration system for ultralight backpacking and mountaineering. HydroBlu is comparable to Sawyer mini but this set up has the advantage of including a 3L reservoir/bladder that opens at the top and can be used to drink from directly (like a CamelBak, tubing and bite valve included) or used as a gravity feed. 3L Bladder is made from flexible, siliconized material which is bigger (3L) and appears to be much more flexible and durable than the standard Sawyer Mini bladders (that are small and some hikers complain that they delaminate quickly and are cheaply made.) In the case of the Sawyer, some hikers end up replacing the the bags that come standard with the Mini or Squeeze with larger Sawyer, Evernew or Platypus bags-- at extra cost. Time will tell if the VersaBlu reservoir will last, but it "feels" more like a "Camelbak" than a Dollar Store collapsible water bottle. Another advantage of the HydroBlu is that it is a top loading reservoir bag, so you can use a pre-filter (like a bandana or get fancy and use aquarium filter floss) inside the bag itself, to mechanically screen particulates out of the filter and extend filter life. The HydroBlu "in" connector has a dual connection: nozzle or thread. Like the Sawyer, the "in" thread matches perfectly on the hiker standard Smartwater bottle, so you can put "dirty water" in your bottle but suck out "clean" water through the "out" nozzle. This particular kit includes a bucket adapter with additional (grey) tubing, which is super handy if you plan to make additional mods (tornado, carbon filter, etc-- search youtube for mods). Possible improvements: There are very vague instructions so it wasn't clear where to locate the filter between the reservoir and the bite valve (user preference). Also, the "out" nozzle is a hair bigger than the nozzle on the Sawyer so it doesn't fit perfectly onto a Smartwater squirt adapter (nipple?) for backflushing. No backflushing equipment is included (like the Sawyer plunger). Easy fixes for all of these and not a deal breaker for me (I never use the Sawyer plunger!) Conclusion: the cost of this kit is about what the Sawyer squeeze costs but HydroBlu (which is the size of a Sawyer mini) comes with extra features (reservoir, bite valve, bucket adapter) that take the guess work out of modding. Looks to be a good product at a great price. ★★★★★ No more pumps, Wahoo! Posted by Emily West on Nov 4th 2017 A filter that doesn't require a pump, Wahoo! All my life i've been used to the pump style water filter, they take ages to filter water and can require multiple rest breaks depending on how much clean water you need. Using the Versa Flow 3L I can filter twice as much water in half the time I could with my old pump. I'm so happy with this product!

What is the HydroBlue Versa Flow exactly? What kind of water filtration capabilities does it have?

The HydroBlu Versa Flow Water Filter was designed to be as versatile as you. Add a 3L Top Fill Reservoir and it becomes the ultimate hydration tool that easily adapts to your lifestyle. Combining the Versa Flow as an inline filter allows you to use it with your hydration pack or used as a gravity system. The Versa Flow water filter is one of the lightest and most convenient personal water filters on the market. Weighing in at only 2 ounces you don’t have to worry about adding extra weight to your pack or try to find a dedicated spot for it. It will fit virtually anywhere. This water filter is perfect for backpacking, hiking, camping, travel, and emergency preparedness. The 3L Top Fill Reservoir is one of the most convenient reservoirs anywhere. Most hydration reservoirs are designed with a circular screw off cap that makes them hard to clean and nearly impossible to fill to capacity. Our Top Fill reservoir, on the other hand, opens easily by rotating the two red tabs on the top and separating the sides. It is like big a zip lock bag on steroids. This design means you can easily fill and clean your reservoir any time. We also put extra thought into the design of our bite valve, which rotates to seal off your liquids from dripping when you are not using it. Although it is lightweight, the Versa Flow is heavy in features. Every filter is built to exacting standards and exceeds EPA standards for filtration. The Versa Flow has many tiny tubes called hollow fiber. Hollow fiber works through size exclusion. Meaning the hollow fiber tubes have thousands of tiny holes (0.1 microns) that block 99.9999% of harmful bacteria, Giardia, E. coli, protozoan cysts, Cryptosporidium and more. All of these organisms are too large to fit through the 0.1 micron holes. Some manufacturers filter the water through the core of the hollow fiber tubes, but this restricts water flow because only so much water can fit through the core opening. We filter water through the outside of the tubes by bending the hollow fiber. This dramatically increases the surface area and flow rate of the filter while protecting the filter integrity itself. If the core of the tubes become clogged from sediment on the competitor's filter you can no use the filter. The Versa Flow allows you to be able to backflush the filter, clearing out all of the particulates and increasing the lifespan of the filter. If you consistently backflush the filter you can use it almost indefinitely. This means no additional filters, cartridges, pumps, iodine drops, or batteries to ever buy again. The Versa Flow water filter does not remove chemicals or viruses from water. Generally, viruses are not found in North America or in municipal water supplies around the world. Lightweight and low cost, the Versa Flow should be in everyone's backpack, survival gear or travel bag. Find more information at http://hydroblu.com/versa-flow-water-filter-with-reservoir/
